YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK - BUFFALO!

The massive herd of buffalo in Yellowstone National Park is beautiful. They are a common sight here. During my visit, I saw a lot of babies. The mothers are very protective - and look out if you get too near one of the babies!

The babies are so cute!!

Humans are a curiosity to them - but they mind

their mothers and don't come near.

So sweet!

THEY OWN THE ROAD!

You will be driving along, and suddenly see THIS!

They don't move or yield!

If you don't move, the will charge your car.

She had to nudge her little brat across the street.

This made me a little nervous because her

baby wasn't keeping up. But, he seemed to

know to stay away from the cars.

My window was down and this guy was

really giving me the stank-eye!

YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK - MORE ANIMALS

COYOTES

Coyotes are all over Yellowstone. I was lucky enough to

see several up close, and some kind of far away.

This coyote was ice-fishing. He was patiently waiting

for his dinner to appear in the frozen lake.

Coyotes are very good at camouflaging themselves.

The buffalo is in no danger. A coyote won't

take down a buffalo (but, a pack of wolves will!)

These two were howling at something!

These are the very elusive wolves. There is a pack of

approximately 90 living in Yellowstone. You have to be

up by sunrise to catch them out hunting. These had killed

something (probably a buffalo) down by the river,

and were taking it back to their den. A coyote waited

nearby for leftover scraps.

This black wolf looked like nothing more than a

common German shepherd to me.

But, I was assured it was indeed a wolf.

I had never seen a badger before. This animal was on

the side of the roadway digging a hole that he kept going

in and out of. I thought it was just a big, jumbo, fat ferret.

I later found out it was a badger.

Lots of deer live in the park.

There is a huge herd of elk all over Yellowstone.

Elk are also a favorite meal of wolves.

Pronghorn antelope are also common at Yellowstone.

They are the one animal there that can outrun a wolf.

While this is a common little fellow, you don't

see them much roaming around.
